Psychedelic luxury: Inside the boutique magic mushroom retreat where CEOs, celebrities go for self-discovery (2024)

Journeymen Collective founders Rob Grover and Gary Logan say their company offers a personalized journey for high-profile customers.

Outside Vancouver, Canada is a massive estate where wealthy entrepreneurs, CEOs, celebrities and athletes go on a luxuriously managed psychedelic mushroom retreat with the goal of reaching their highest potential.

Founded in 2018 by Rob Grover and Gary Logan, Journeymen Collective hosts guests in the 7,000-square-foot Okanagan Valley villa. People from all over the world come to the location, which includes a 1-acre property, 4 guest rooms, and a saltwater pool, to experience high levels of self-discovery using psilocybin, a naturally occurring compound produced by over 200 species of mushrooms.

Grover and Logan described their company as “a high-level experience for high-level individuals.”

“It’s a boutique five-star experience that we offer people,” Grover told FOX Business. “We love what we get to do with people. We care about people at a high level and know that this can be an experience that they can learn from for the rest of their lives, even if they only do it once.”

THIS IS THE WAY? “JEDI CENTER” USES MAGIC MUSHROOMS FOR GUIDED “TRIPS”

The psilocybin “trips” can be curated to meet the needs of solo travelers, small groups (3 to 4 people), and couples of two, so-called “power couples.” Over four days, visitors take part in two “deeply intense” mushroom ceremonies, punctuated by three days of restorative “integration.”

“Rob and Gary believe that by teaching psychedelic plant medicines in a respectful and responsible manner with a professional intent that leans toward reverence, one can achieve greater awareness of one's true self and translate that energy into applied learning,” explains The Journeymen Collective.

An on-site private chef prepares unique vegetarian dishes to ensure guests have a good rest throughout their stay.

International clients also need to carefully prepare for their trip and continue working on the retreat after leaving the property.

“We have four weeks of preparation and that sets up the most important question we always ask: Do you meditate? And engaging in a meditation program every day is critically important,” Logan said. “You should also look at your diet as well as your alcohol and recreational drug or medication consumption. So all of this plays a role in the first interview. Here we dive in to find out where you stand health-wise.”

Logan and Grover found that the “visual content,” also called “inputs,” consumed by customers typically has one of the largest impacts on the journey process.

US states are considering legalizing psychedelic mushrooms for therapeutic purposes

The Journeymen Collective urges clients to limit their exposure to negative content such as “scary news” on television and online readings. Logan said that even listening to something like heavy metal before the trip could have an impact.

“Usually when it comes to the journey we have ahead of us, so many people say, 'I don't need to drink anymore. I don't listen or watch the news, or at least a little,'” Logan said.

The journey begins when a customer arrives at the center around 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. After settling in, guests can hike in the nearby forest or take an Alexander Technique class led by Logan, which helps visitors become more in touch with themselves.

The Alexander Technique is, in part, a process that illuminates inefficient movement habits and patterns that cause tension in the body and interfere with a person's ability to move as intended. This Thursday evening, clients would “go on a journey” and take the psilocybin for the first time. The Journeymen Collective asks ceremony participants to remain in their own “energy bubble.”

“During this time, you may hear other people — just do your best to come back to yourself,” Logan said.

“The ceremonies are all about self-reflection. And then there's this dynamic process where people just connect and evolve and realize, “Wow, we just went through something really powerful and powerful.” And some people will say, “This is the hardest experience, “I've ever done it in my life, but it's also the most impressive,” he added.

STUDY RESULTS: MAGIC MUSHROOMS CAN HELP TREAT DEPRESSION

A series of studies published at the National Institutes of Health show potentially positive benefits with minimal safety concerns for the use of psilocybin, commonly known as “magic mushrooms,” in the treatment of suicidality, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and alcohol and tobacco use disorders.

However, psilocybin can cause hallucinations, which can lead to panic reactions and psychotic episodes in some people who take certain prescription medications or have underlying health conditions. Additionally, while some states have legalized or decriminalized psilocybin, it is still illegal in many parts of the world.

Therefore, it is recommended that psilocybin be taken under the supervision of an experienced physician and only in an area where the user will not be subject to criminal prosecution.

The next day of the retreat may include rest, forest activities, more Alexander lessons, meditation, lots of reflection on what was shown, and time to answer questions.

“This is when we dig a little deeper and sort out a lot of the things that are coming our way,” Logan said.

The process would continue in a similar manner throughout the remainder of the stay.

However, Grover and Logan emphasize that the process is not rigid but is tied to the needs of each individual customer. Some people already have a refined diet and need enough protein. Rather than setting hard and fast rules, Journeymen Collective asks visitors to become aware of what their mind, body and spirit need. Only then can the process really begin.

“We are at your side. From waking up in the morning to going to bed every day. It’s a very dynamic, curated process,” Grover said.

Logan compared the highlight of the experience for clients to having the “blinders” of “narrow focus” removed and being able to see themselves and the world from a 360-degree perspective.

“I think the most important thing is that they feel calm about the dramas and traumas that have happened to them in their past. As a result, they simply have greater clarity of mind. You have clarity of mind and peace in your heart.”
