The Polaris Slingshotoffers a lot of fun on three wheels (or four), and owners can be a little more comfortable inside the 2017 model year version, too. Polaris is launching the new top-spec SLR trim, and an optional sunshade puts a removable roof over occupants’ heads.
You can easily spot the SLR from the outside because they wear a two-tone paint scheme with black accents on an Orange Madness or Turbo Silver body. The range-topping model also uses composite brake rotors and a 305-millimeter wide rear tire, which is 40 mm more than on the base and SL trims. Inside, occupants find LED lighting and components from Sparco, including the aluminum shift knob, pedal covers, and steering wheel. The SLR will be available starting in August and will retail for $28,499.
There are also minor upgrades for the 2017 Slingshot SL. Customers can order two new colors: Sunset Red and Black Pearl. The trikes also now come standard with a wind deflector, new accent hood graphics, cut-and-sew fabric seats, and Rockford Fosgate speakers. Prices start at $25,499, and the base Slingshot is $21,999. Power for all of them still comes from a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 173 horsepower that spins the rear wheel through a five-speed manual gearbox.
Polaris’ new Slingshade is available for Slingshot trims and lets occupants get out of the sun. It costs $2,999.99 and comes in black or red. The accessory connects on the front of the passenger area and on the roll hoops above the seats to create a roof. The top features tinted glass that still allows light into the cabin. If owners don’t feel like taking the whole thing down, they can return to open-air driving by removing T-top panels. The Slingshade doesn’t extend the windshield or add side windows, so inclement weather would still be an issue for those inside.

Available in dealerships this August, the new SLR comes with a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $28,499 and builds on Slingshot's strong foundation of standard performance features. Key new features include:

Like all Slingshot models, the SLR is constructed with a high-strength steel spaceframe and powered by a 173-hp 2.4-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine that drives the rear wheel via a five-speed manual transmission. The responsive combination delivers exhilarating acceleration and connects the driver and passenger to the road through a sophisticated double-wishbone front suspension and electronic power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering. All models also feature an electronic stability control system and disc brakes with ABS.
Slingshade and Slingshot Engineered Accessories
Owners can make Slingshot their own with 31 new Slingshot Engineered Accessories, including the revolutionary new Slingshade. The Slingshade is designed to flow with the lines of the distinctively styled Slingshot, complementing its form with uncompromising function – including removable T-top panels. The panels also feature tinted windows that retain overhead views and help illuminate the open co*ckpit. A lightweight frame and compact dimensions make the Slingshade easily removable and stowable for those times when only a totally open road experience will do.
